Infusion Spotlight: Migraine Relief
Contents: Benadryl, Decadron, Toradol, Magnesium
Do you get migraines that simply won’t go away? As someone who grew up with frequent migraines, I know how debilitating they can be. Try our spin on a traditional “migraine cocktail,” a staple of emergency rooms across the nation, and you’ll feel better fast.
We start by covering the basics with toradol. Sometimes all you need to bust the migraine is a healthy dose of pain relief that oral medications simply can’t provide. Toradol also helps prevent any inflammation that may be contributing to your discomfort.
While direct pain control is certainly an important part of stopping a migraine in its tracks, many migraine sufferers require more complicated methods to achieve relief. That’s where the magnesium comes in. True migraines are thought to result from unusual blood vessel constriction in the brain. Magnesium dilates blood vessels and helps relax muscles in your head, decreasing tension to help you feel better.
Most people know Benadryl for its histamine blocking abilities, but what you may not know is that it is a very handy drug for relieving migraines and the associated symptoms. You have histamine receptors in the “vomiting center” in your brain, so blocking those can ease the nausea that often comes with intense headaches and migraines. Benadryl also functions as something called an “anticholinergic” which also helps with nausea and can assist in dilating brain blood vessels.
The final ingredient in our Migraine Relief infusion, decadron, may seem like a strange choice. It is a steroid that is typically used for preventing nausea, a function it is extremely good at. Nobody is certain exactly why, but steroids have proven to be extremely useful in easing migraines. It is possible that their ability to quickly and potently relieve inflammation is responsible for this effect, but what we do know is that steroids work and are a tried-and-true staple of anti-migraine strategies just about everywhere.
When your head is pounding, and you need relief, don’t waste your day suffering in the emergency room. We have you covered! Migraine cocktails worked for me, and they will work for you.
Be well,
